Vivienne Westwood, who is still alive, was born on April 8th, 1941. Her official website is www.viviennewestwood.co.uk if you ever wish to check out more of her designs. Although she has aged, her heart has not and she is still as energetic and inspirational as ever; many people would describe her as “punky.”
I didn’t know about Vivienne Westwood until a friend told me to search her up on Google. At first, I thought that her designs were way too abstract for someone like me to understand but what finally made me come to appreciate her was a wedding dress that she designed which was shown in the movie Sex and the City. Her personality was another influential reason why I found interest in her. Firstly, let’s talk about her wedding dress which was worn by Jessica Parker on her wedding day.
What caught my eye? Well…the dress of course! The way the dress is puffy below the waist makes the wedding dress even more special than just a stereotypical white wedding dress. A creamy yellow is given to the dress to this white dress but it doesn’t take away the purity of a white dress. This dress was known to be an “iconic feature” in the movie Sex and the City. Let’s move on to the interview Vivienne Westwood had with Mike Press, shall we?
This interview was very inspirational. While reading the interview, I felt as if I could feel her strong emotions as she spoke her words. What got to me was when she said, “But what drove me on I suppose is that I felt I had to explore these ideas I had to understand the world I lived in. I was this idiot person and doing this was what I needed to do to understand what was going on.” What she said was very true. The world we live in is a very mysterious place and being born into the world, we begin as an inexperienced child who knows nothing until we’re willing to find answers to all our unanswered questions.
If you would like to hear her yourself, here is a link of her when she was at Dundee University where she presented herself in front of art students: http://vimeo.com/1274213
